Soldiers of the Unmanned Systems Forces destroyed 3 Russian Buk air defense systems in the Kursk region. The Russian air defense system was eliminated within 12 hours, the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine says.

"In the Kursk region, operators of the 413th separate battalion of unmanned systems Reid of the Unmanned Systems Forces in cooperation with the consolidated detachment of unmanned aerial vehicles Dzhmil of the 78th Airborne Division, detected and destroyed 3 Russian Buk SAMs within 12 hours,” the video is captioned.

According to the Ukrainian military, the pilots delivered precision strikes with FPV drones on a Buk-M2 launcher, which the Russians had disguised in a forest belt. The strike on the equipment led to the detonation of missiles and their destruction.

The battalion's operators also hit two Buk-M3 launchers, damaging their radars.

Radar is a key element of the SAM, designed to "illuminate" air targets and guide missiles. Its destruction undermines the combat capabilities of the system.

Buk SAM

The Buk-M3 SAM is a modern modification of the Soviet medium- and long-range surface-to-air missile system designed to effectively combat a variety of air targets at medium and long ranges. The system is capable of destroying aircraft, ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones.

The system is equipped with a radar for searching, tracking, and targeting, which ensures high accuracy and efficiency in difficult conditions of electronic jamming. The Buk-M3 can engage multiple targets simultaneously at ranges up to 70 km and altitudes from 15 to 25 km, making it a very powerful air defense system.

Earlier, Vadym Sukharevskyi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that the units of the Nemesis Unmanned Systems Forces had destroyed over 15 units of expensive Buk-M3 and Tor.

And the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that unmanned systems have become one of the most important elements of the war. In particular, in February of this year, the number of targets hit and destroyed increased by 22% compared to January.
