In six months of existence, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Unmanned Systems Forces have conducted over 220 operations deep into Russian territory, launching more than 3,500 drones, states commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Vadym Sukharevskyi, in an interview with Donbas.Realii.

"If we talk about combat applications, then, summarizing 2024, the approximate figures are as follows: our units have carried out over 220 deep-strike operations against the enemy on Russian territory. More than 3,500 drones have been launched at this point," Sukharevskyi stated.

He emphasized that Ukrainian bomber drones and the units operating them demonstrate "extraordinary effectiveness."

"For example, in just the past two months, our Nemesis units have destroyed more than 15 high-value Buk-M3, Tor, and other systems. One notable deep strike was the destruction of a Buk-M3 just two weeks ago at a depth of 57 kilometers," the commander noted.

Sukharevskyi also stressed that active work is underway to systematize various software platforms and develop new tactics for ground-based robotic systems.

"We have already begun the process of synchronizing and developing operational components for maritime defense and attack concepts. And I believe that very soon we will move on to the practical implementation of such activities," he added.

Unmanned Systems Forces

Ukraine became the first country to establish a new branch of the military — the Unmanned Systems Forces. On June 25, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree establishing the USF.

In September, the head of state signed a law officially incorporating the Unmanned Systems Forces as a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
