Ukrainian Defence Forces destroyed Russian minesweeper Kovrovets
Ukrainian defenders have destroyed another Russian ship. The Ukrainian Armed Forces sank the minesweeper Kovrovets, according to the Ukrainian Navy in Telegram and the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"The Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed the Russian minesweeper Kovrovets," the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
The Navy specifies that this was a Defense Forces operation, confirming the successful destruction of the Russian Black Sea Fleet minesweeper of Project 266-M Kovrovets.
About this ship
Kovrovets is a minesweeper of Project 266M. Its main tasks include trailing ships and vessels, reconnaissance and control trailing, laying corridors in minefields, and participating in mine-laying operations.
This ship entered service in the Soviet Navy in 1974 and was named Kurskiy Komsomolets until 1982. It was renamed Navodchik in 1992 and received its current name in 1999.
Kovrovets has participated in operations in the Atlantic, the Persian Gulf, and patrolled near the shores of Syria. In 2016-2017, the minesweeper was part of the Russian Mediterranean Fleet.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian defenders have destroyed 26 Russian ships and one enemy submarine.
