During the funicular accident in Lisbon, a citizen of Ukraine was killed. His relatives have already been informed, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported.

"According to the Embassy of Ukraine in Portugal, unfortunately, one citizen of Ukraine, born in 1971, died in the funicular disaster in Lisbon. Ukrainian diplomats informed the relatives of the deceased and expressed condolences," the ministry said.

They specified that Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha instructed the embassy to provide the relatives of the deceased with all necessary consular assistance.

Tragedy in Lisbon

Yesterday, September 3, in Lisbon the popular among tourists Glória funicular derailed. As a result, 15 people were killed. At least 25 more were injured.

The funicular derailed at high speed, crashed into a building, and overturned.

The Elevador da Glória funicular is considered one of Lisbon's landmark attractions and a favorite tourist site. Its cars are designed for 43 passengers, and the annual passenger flow reaches about 3 million people.

The Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, called this incident a tragedy that had never happened in the city before.
