Ukrainian Armed Forces report repelling nighttime Russian air attack
Russian invaders used 24 Shahed kamikaze drones and an Kh-59 missile for an airstrike on Ukraine tonight. Over half of the enemy's attack drones and missiles were destroyed by the Air Defense Forces, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Air Force.
In the morning briefing on April 8, the military command reported that they had managed to shoot down 17 Shahed drones.
"During the night, Russian occupiers again attacked Ukraine, using 24 UAVs of the Shahed type. The Air Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed 17 of these attack UAVs," the General Staff statement said.
According to the Air Force, the Russians launched the Kh-59 missile from the airspace of the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region.
The Shahed drones were launched by the enemy from Cape Chauda in Crimea, as well as from the areas of the Russian cities of Kursk and Yeysk.
"Fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare assets were involved in repelling the air attack," the defenders of the sky reported.
As a result of the air defense battle, the Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down:
- a guided Kh-59 missile in the Dnipropetrovsk region;
- 17 attack drones in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Khmelnytskyi, and Zhytomyr regions.
Night attack by Shahed drones on Ukraine
On the evening of Sunday, April 7, Russian invaders once again launched Shahed drones towards Ukraine. The drones attacked southern, central, and northern regions.
In particular, on the night of April 8, an alarm was raised in the Kyiv region due to the operation of enemy drones by the Air Defense Forces.
Later, in the morning, the forces defending the south of Ukraine reported that they had successfully countered 7 barrage attacks: 4 drones were shot down in the Odesa region, 2 in the Mykolaiv region, and 1 in the Kirovohrad region.
However, there was also a strike in the Odesa region, resulting in damage to a logistic transport object. The consequences are being clarified. The falling debris from the downed drone also damaged a gas station. No casualties were reported.
