Ukrainian Air Force responds to media reports of Greece supplying F-16s to Ukraine
The possible transfer of F-16 aircraft from Greece to Ukraine will strengthen the air component of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and help fight Russian aircraft, according to Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Illia Yevlash.
"Of course, F-16 aircraft are the ones that are most suitable for us, so F-16s would be most suitable for our aviation," Yevlash says.
According to him, Greek F-16s would greatly strengthen Ukrainian air component.
He also adds that these aircraft would help fight Russian aircraft and missiles, as well as perform tasks for Ukrainian infantry at the front.
What happened before
Earlier, the media reported that the Greek government could provide Ukraine with up to 32 F-16 fighter jets.
According to the agency, the Greek government plans to sell 108 fighters to be decommissioned (32 F-16C/-D Block 30, 24 Mirage 2000-5 Mk. 2 and 33 F-4E PI2000).
"Indeed, in July 2022, a positive opinion of the relevant parliamentary committee was requested for the sale of fighters and related and peripheral equipment (spare parts, simulators, instruments, and materials), the cost of which was estimated at 117 million euros. The sale never took place, and the condition of the fighters in open storage is constantly deteriorating," the article says.
