Ukraine welcomed Polish President Karol Nawrocki's decision to cancel a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, a close ally of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Sybiha said Warsaw made "indeed a good decision," noting it strongly demonstrates Poland's principled stance amid the current situation.
"This is indeed a good decision. It shows Poland's principled stance and strong sense of solidarity, reaffirming its commitment to European unity and security at a crucial moment. Thank you, Poland," he added.
On November 28, Orbán visited Moscow and met with Putin. During the meeting, the Hungarian Prime Minister said the country is ready to provide a venue for negotiations on Ukraine, while Putin did not rule out that talks between Russia and the US could lead to a peace summit in Budapest.
Later, Orbán made another anti-Ukraine and anti-European statement, claiming that ending the war is possible only if Ukraine returns to the status of a "buffer state." He also accused European leaders of allegedly seeking to prolong the conflict for financial gain.
After Orbán's controversial statement and visit to Putin's stronghold, Polish President Karol Nawrocki canceled his meeting with the Hungarian Prime Minister, limiting his visit to a presidential summit in Esztergom.
