Ukraine, US discuss fast-tracking Patriot missile shipments

Ukraine is discussing with the United States ways to accelerate deliveries of missiles for Patriot air defense systems and the launch of joint production of air defense equipment, according to a statement by Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi.
Details of talks, practical steps
Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, together with Acting Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara, met with the Raytheon vice president responsible for land and air defense systems, as well as the CEO of Raytheon Ukraine.
The main focus of the discussions was strengthening Ukraine's air defenses ahead of the fall and winter season and expanding the capabilities of the country's domestic defense industry.
"We discussed how to quickly increase deliveries of missiles for Patriot systems before winter, expand their production, and make Ukraine's defense industry even stronger. Our goal is not only to meet Ukraine's defense needs but also to integrate Ukraine's defense capabilities into the global security system," the prime minister said.

The two sides also focused on localizing weapons production in Ukraine.
"We paid special attention to the joint production of air defense systems. This is an area that the presidents of Ukraine and the United States discussed during their meeting in Ankara. The American side has proposed practical steps. The Ukrainian government will do everything necessary to ensure this work begins as quickly as possible," Koretskyi emphasized.
Strengthening Ukraine's air defenses with Patriots
As previously reported, Ukraine is actively seeking ways to expand its defense capabilities and bolster its air defense systems.
In particular, Ukraine is counting on Japan's support in establishing production of Patriot systems under a US license.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced new appointments aimed at strengthening the country's air defenses and outlined specific steps to accelerate the implementation of key defense initiatives.
