The presence of Russian military bases in Syria will only destabilize the region. Moscow's withdrawal from Syria will be a just result of its crimes, stated Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

"The fair and logical outcome of years of Russia dropping barrel bombs on Syrian cities and communities, brutally killing innocent women, children, and the elderly, would be Moscow's withdrawal from Syria and the loss of its military bases in the country," the Foreign Minister emphasized.

He underlined that the Russian military presence brings only greater destabilization to the region, not stability.

"This has always been the case. Even Russia's allies cannot rely on Moscow. At critical moments, the Russians flee, leaving them to their fate. This has been proven time and again, even before Assad (the former Syrian President - ed.)," Sibiha stressed.

At the same time, he pointed out that there is no reason why Russian military bases should remain in Syria.

"From our experience, whatever the Russians promise, they will break every single commitment. Killing and lying are the two things they are most skilled at," the Foreign Minister concluded.

The fall of the Assad's regime

A few weeks ago, Syrian rebels overthrew Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria. Government forces did not put up much resistance to the opposition forces, and Assad fled to Russia.

Against the backdrop of the events in Syria, Moscow began to withdraw its ships from naval bases and to transfer the remaining weapons from the bases. Ukraine emphasizes that the collapse of the Assad regime has hit Russia, as Syria has been one of Moscow's allies for a long time.

Earlier today it became known that Russia allegedly began to redeploy air defense systems and other weapons from Syria to Libya.
