Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has officially approved the new domestically developed TALION unmanned aerial vehicle for operational use. The drone is capable of serving both as an interceptor against enemy UAVs and as a kamikaze strike aircraft, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
TALION flight modes and combat roles
The primary mission of the new system is to hunt enemy drones as part of Ukraine’s so-called short-range air defense. Operators can control the aircraft either manually or in a semi-automatic mode.
In addition to engaging aerial targets, TALION can effectively destroy ground targets, making it a versatile battlefield asset.
Combat capabilities of the Ukrainian drone
The new UAV can operate at various altitudes, allowing it to intercept virtually all types of Russian drones. Thanks to its extended endurance, the system can also be deployed for patrolling and aerial reconnaissance.
According to the military, combining interceptor capabilities with those of a loitering munition will improve Ukraine’s ability to counter enemy aerial threats while delivering highly accurate strikes against targets deep behind the tactical front line.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian forces successfully shot down the new Russian Sokol-I drone for the first time. The aircraft was designed to combat both Ukrainian reconnaissance and strike drones.
