Ukraine to send detailed request for weapons to South Korea - Zelenskyy
Ukraine plans to send a detailed request to South Korea shortly. It will include the necessary weapons for the Ukrainian military, says President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with the South Korean TV channel KBS.
He reminded that Ukraine has been "very careful" in its approach toward South Korea, and South Korea has also been "careful" regarding Ukraine.
"But now, after North Korea has received official status as the state that has come to fight against Ukraine, our request will be detailed. It will be delivered by my representative, who will arrive in South Korea soon. We will discuss weapons," Zelenskyy said.
The president clarified that he does not know how Seoul will respond to such a request. Yet, Ukraine needs additional artillery, air defense, and other essential items.
Aid from South Korea
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has not received military assistance from South Korea. However, Seoul's position began to change after North Korea sent its soldiers to Russia to assist in the war against Ukraine.
Last week, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, commenting on the situation with North Korean troops, assured that his country "will not sit idly by." He promised Ukraine consistent support if North Korea sent special forces to the war.
On October 30, rumors spread in the media that Seoul was considering direct supplies of 155mm artillery shells to Ukraine. However, the South Korean President's Office denied this information.
