Ukraine to receive Caesar howitzers from France and Denmark a year earlier
Denmark has allocated additional funds for the purchase of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The delivery of already contracted systems will also be accelerated, according to the Danish Ministry of Defense.
The country's defense ministry noted that the meeting's key goal is to accelerate the transfer of French-made Caesar self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine. In particular, initially, Caesar deliveries were scheduled for 2026, but now the 155-mm self-propelled artillery systems will be handed over to the Ukrainian army in 2025.
“The Defense industry has shown that they can deliver what is needed in Ukraine. Therefore the government will increase the funding for the industry in order for the last contracts to be resolved this year,” said Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.
He also noted that the amount of funds allocated to the industrial pool is about 2.6 billion Danish kroner (over $360 million - ed.). But this amount will be increased in the near future. The supply of ammunition for this artillery will also be accelerated. The Ukrainian Defense Forces will be able to receive them in 2025.
“The CAESAR artillery systems have been requested by Ukraine, thus it is possitve that Denmark can now assist Ukraine with more artillery capacities next year,” he added.
Caesar
Caesar is a modern self-propelled artillery system that combines mobility, accuracy, and firepower. It can quickly turn around, fire a volley, and leave the position, avoiding return fire.
Caesar is used by many armies around the world due to its versatility. It can be used in various conditions, from deserts to mountainous areas. The system is equipped with an automated fire control system, which significantly increases the efficiency of firing.
Caesar plays an important role in modern armed conflicts by providing artillery support to ground forces.
In February last year, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that Copenhagen had transferred its Caesar self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine.
