Ukraine to receive additional loan of $300 million from Canada
On October 11, Ukraine’s Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko signed an agreement with the Canadian government for a loan of 400 million Canadian dollars (approximately 300 million USD). The funds will be allocated to finance priority expenditures in Ukraine’s state budget through the IMF's administrative account, citing Ukraine's Ministry of Finance.
Marchenko emphasized Canada’s significant role in supporting Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, noting that direct budget support from Canada has surpassed $5 billion since February 2022.
The minister expressed his gratitude to the Canadian government and its citizens for their solidarity and assistance in stabilizing Ukraine’s financial system.
The new loan has a 10-year term with an interest rate of 1.5% per year and a grace period of 4.5 years. These funds are expected to be transferred to Ukraine’s general state budget in the near future.
Canada's support for Ukraine
Since the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Canada has been one of Ukraine's most active international partners. Canada's support spans a wide range of areas, including military aid, humanitarian assistance, financial support, and active diplomatic efforts on the global stage.
In July, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a $500 million aid package for Ukraine.
