Ukrainian officials, at a meeting with their American counterparts in Saudi Arabia, plan to propose a ceasefire with Russia in the air and at sea, according to the Associated Press.

Two unnamed high-ranking Ukrainian officials told the news agency that Ukraine’s proposal would also include the release of prisoners.

At the same time, AP’s sources clarified that the Ukrainian delegation is ready to sign an agreement with the US on mineral resources during the negotiations. The deal was supposed to be concluded two weeks ago.

An unnamed US official noted in a comment to journalists that during the talks in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and the US could also make progress on restoring intelligence sharing.

Zelenskyy’s proposal

Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined the initial steps toward ending the war with Russia.

The president’s proposal includes a ceasefire in the air, banning the use of missiles and long-range drones, as well as strikes on energy and other civilian infrastructure. It also calls for a ceasefire at sea.

As political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko explained in a comment to RBC-Ukraine’s YouTube channel, a ceasefire in the air and at sea could serve as the first step toward ending hostilities.

However, he believes that achieving a ceasefire on land will be much more difficult, as there is no stable front line.
