Ukraine is planning to increase its weapons production next year, focusing on drones and long-range weaponry, including ballistic missiles, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov at the International Defense Industries Forum (DFNC2).

"We have already invested $4 billion in the development of the Ukrainian defense industry, and next year we plan to increase funding. Our priority is the development of domestic drones and long-range weapons, including ballistic missiles," Umerov said.

According to the minister, Ukraine is working on attracting foreign partners to establish joint ventures for the defense industry’s development. Key elements include securing long-term contracts for the production, supply, and maintenance of weaponry. This will help meet the long-term needs of the Ukrainian military.

More than 280 companies participated in this year’s forum. The Defense Ministry noted that new agreements were signed to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.

Ukrainian weapons production

Since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine has accelerated the pace of domestic weapons production, including various types of drones, ammunition, and armored vehicles. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine could produce up to 4 million drones annually.

Ukraine is also developing new types of weapons. During the war, the country has created maritime drones, several robotic systems, and long-range weapons.

Earlier, Zelenskyy announced the successful deployment of Ukraine’s Palyanytsia missile-drone. He also reported the development of Ukrainian ballistic missiles, which, according to the president, have successfully passed flight tests.
