Sea King for Ukraine: Germany to hand over 6 multipurpose helicopters
Germany announced today, January 23, the allocation of six multipurpose Sea King helicopters to Ukraine, states the German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius.
Pistorius participated in a virtual meeting of Ramstein, where he announced that Germany would transfer six multi-role Sea King helicopters to Ukraine. This assistance is provided in addition to the main directions, specifically reinforcing Ukraine's air defense.
Sikorsky S-61 Sea King
It is a transport helicopter built by the Sikorsky Aero Engineering Corporation. The helicopter was developed under a contract signed on December 24, 1957, with the U.S. Navy. The first flight of the experimental model took place on March 11, 1959. Serial production began in 1961.
A total of 796 helicopters of all modifications were built, and additionally, over 600 helicopters were built under license. Ukraine had previously received such helicopters from Britain.
Ramstein-18
It was reported earlier that on January 23, the 18th meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format began.
The head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, urged the participants of the meeting to provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine with "more lifesaving ground-based air-defense systems and interceptors."
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, at today's meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format, discussed what the Armed Forces of Ukraine need to achieve a breakthrough.
The Head of the Press and Information Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Ilarion Pavliuk, reported that within the framework of the regular meeting in the Ramstein format, issues of increasing supplies of long-range weapons to Ukraine were discussed.
