Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the G7 summit and shared Ukraine's view on how to bring Russian leader Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, according to Sybiha.

As Sybiha said, he congratulated Rubio on the signing of the agreement between the United States and Iran and expressed hope that it would bring stability to the region and energy markets.

"I reiterated President Zelenskyy's anticipation that this deal creates an opportunity to reenergize US-led peace efforts aimed at ending Russia's war against Ukraine," he said.

According to the foreign minister, they also discussed ways to advance the peace process.

"I shared Ukraine's view of the steps needed to finally bring Putin to the negotiating table," Sybiha said.

He also informed Rubio about Putin's strikes on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and other civilian, cultural, and historical sites.

"They demonstrate that Moscow wages a war against faith, heritage, and Ukrainian identity," the diplomat emphasized.

The minister also briefed Rubio on the latest successes of Ukrainian forces on the battlefield and the need for continued sanctions pressure on Russia.

"We see a growing momentum toward peace through strength, and we rely on robust US leadership and engagement," Sybiha concluded.

US-Iran agreement

US President Donald Trump previously announced that an agreement had been reached between the United States and Iran.

According to him, the agreement provides for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of the naval blockade by the US Navy, and Tehran's abandonment of the development and acquisition of nuclear weapons.

Yesterday, it became known that the ceremony for signing the peace agreement between the United States and Iran is scheduled for June 19 in Geneva, Switzerland.
