Ukraine struck gas industry facilities in Russia’s Orenburg region, which is located more than 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, according to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his evening video address.
According to the president, these are "long-range sanctions" in response to Russian strikes on Ukraine.
"In particular, the Orenburg region: more than one and a half thousand kilometers from Ukraine, facilities of the Russian gas industry. Ukraine has said that we will act in a mirror response to Russia," Zelenskyy stated.
The president stressed that earlier, Ukraine had proposed a ceasefire, but after several days of relative calm, Russia resumed attacks with drones and aerial bombs.
"Unfortunately, after a period of relative calm lasting three days, there are again Shahed strikes, and again aerial bombs. Frontline activity remains high. Therefore, we are responding," the head of state noted.
At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine continues working with international partners to achieve a diplomatic settlement of the war.
"We continue working with our partners to push toward diplomacy — to push toward peace, however difficult it may be," the president added.
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, after Russia announced a three-day ceasefire, Ukraine was already preparing for new attacks. Zelenskyy warned that Russia is not demonstrating a real desire to stop the war.
Meanwhile, according to RBC-Ukraine, a kindergarten and railway infrastructure caught fire as a result of the overnight attack. There are dead and injured in various regions following the massive strike.
After the attack, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Ukraine would act in a mirror response to Russia’s actions.
