The Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the control tower at the Saky airfield in Crimea and a relay station used to control attack drones in the Chornomorsk area, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On August 12, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a series of strikes against Russian military targets in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea.
Specifically, in the Novofedorivka area, the control tower at the Saky airfield was struck.
According to the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the tower housed a center for collecting and processing information from Orion and Forpost reconnaissance drones. It was also used to monitor the movement of manned and unmanned aircraft.
In addition, a relay station in the Chornomorsk area, used to control Geran/Gerbera strike drones, was struck.
The destruction of these facilities weakens Russia's ability to maintain the operation of the military airfield and control strike drones.
Ukraine's latest strikes against Russia
On the night of August 13, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refinery complex in the city of Salavat, Republic of Bashkortostan.
On the night of August 12, Ukrainian drones struck a Geran drone control relay station in Crimea and other key Russian targets in the occupied territories.
Also, on the night of August 12, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a Russian naval base in Novorossiysk—the Russian Navy's last major stronghold on the Black Sea.
Palyanytsia jet drones, Neptune missiles, and unmanned maritime systems were deployed against the identified targets. Hits on air defense positions, berths, and seaport infrastructure have been confirmed.
The fire at the port was detected by a NASA satellite system that tracks fires and assesses their environmental impact. The images showed thermal anomalies at several locations in Novorossiysk.
