As of today, Ukraine has already signed four contracts worth over 3 billion hryvnias for the supply of interceptor drones capable of countering Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Shahed type, according to the head of the Ministry of Defense, Denys Shmyhal.

"The state is developing the market for Ukrainian interceptor drones. Yesterday, three manufacturers received contracts. In total, we already have four contracts worth over 3 billion hryvnias. We will continue to scale up these technologies," he stated.

As the Prime Minister noted, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy set the task of developing the direction of interceptor drones.

According to him, this week, the Ministry of Defense:

  • discussed with large state banks the issue of lending to manufacturers under state guarantees;

  • spoke with partners about attracting financing for the purchase of interceptor drones. There are already initial agreements.

Interceptor drones

As Zelenskyy recently stated, Ukraine plans to produce hundreds of thousands of interceptor drones this year.

Before this, against the backdrop of massive shelling, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Oleksandr Syrskyi, instructed to improve air defense (AD). In particular, this includes interceptor drones.

On July 10, the president also warned that the enemy plans to launch up to 1,000 kamikaze drones per day.
