Ukraine should become an EU member by 2030, calling it a strategic step for the stability and security of not only Ukraine but the entire region, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
"Lithuania will actively support Ukraine's European integration. We aim for Ukraine to join the EU by 2030. This is a decisive step for stability and prosperity across the region," Nausėda stated.
The Lithuanian president also emphasized that strengthening Ukraine's armed forces remains crucial to counter Russian aggression. He noted that Russia's increased attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure demonstrate a clear unwillingness to honor peace commitments.
Lublin Triangle
On January 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Lithuania to participate in a Lublin Triangle meeting. In Vilnius, he discussed Ukraine's energy needs and support for EU integration with Gitanas Nausėda.
The Lublin Triangle format was established in 2020 as a trilateral cooperation framework among Ukraine, Poland, and Lithuania, aimed at strengthening regional partnerships in security, the economy, and socio-humanitarian issues.
In 2023, Zelenskyy met with then-Presidents of Poland and Lithuania, Andrzej Duda and Gitanas Nausėda, in Ukraine's Lviv.
Following that meeting, the three leaders signed a joint Lublin Triangle declaration, solidifying key areas of cooperation.
During today's meeting in Vilnius, the Ukrainian and Lithuanian Presidents also discussed military collaboration, support for Ukraine's energy system, and new defense initiatives.
