Operators of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Group destroyed a significant number of Russian armored vehicles in the Donetsk direction throughout October, according to the Telegram channel of the Unmanned Systems Forces.

"In the Donetsk direction, the enemy continues active attempts to take our positions; however, operators of the Feniks border unit are disrupting offensive actions and systematically reducing its combat capabilities," the report states.

Specifically, during October, the unit destroyed 12 tanks, 46 combat vehicles, and 642 enemy personnel.

It is noted that thanks to the coordinated actions of the Feniks border unit, enemy armored vehicles were neutralized, which significantly deprived them of mobile cover and fire support.

"The absence of armored vehicles has led to a critical reduction in the enemy’s offensive potential and made further advance in the designated direction impossible," the Unmanned Systems Forces added.

Unmanned Systems Forces

At the beginning of last year, discussions began in Ukraine about creating the Unmanned Systems Forces within the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a separate service branch. The Ministry of Defence explained why a new branch of the armed forces was needed.

At first, the Unmanned Systems Forces were led by Vadym Sukharevskyi. This year, however, the Unmanned Systems Forces were headed by Robert "Madyar" Brovdi.

After his appointment, five Drone Lines units and seven Unmanned Systems Forces units were merged into the Unmanned Systems Grouping.

Recently, "Madyar" said that the Unmanned Systems Forces have received new brigades as well as the 1st separate Center. Recruitment into the grouping will also begin in October.

At the same time, Commander‑in‑Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that unmanned systems are an important instrument for deterring and destroying the enemy. That is why the number of relevant units is increasing.
