Today, the next stage of the large-scale exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and Russia took place. This event was another step in the return of all Ukrainians home, according to the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the SBU, today's exchange is the result of the work of the Joint Center for the Coordination of the Search and Release of Prisoners of War, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, and other authorized structures that have fulfilled the order of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Security Service emphasized that, as stated by the head of state, Ukraine expects full implementation of the humanitarian agreements reached during the Istanbul meeting.

"Every Ukrainian life is of the highest value! We are working to fulfill the President's order and return all citizens of our country from captivity," the SBU concluded.

Prisoner exchange

Today, June 20, Ukraine and Russia carried out a new stage of a large-scale prisoner exchange.

Ukraine and Russia have conducted two major prisoner exchanges in total. The first took place following the initial round of negotiations in Istanbul. It was carried out in three stages, with both sides releasing 1,000 prisoners each.

The second exchange process began on June 9 and is also being conducted in several stages. For security reasons, the exact number of released individuals has not been disclosed at this time.

The Coordination Headquarters stated that final figures will be announced once the entire operation is completed.

Additional exchanges were carried out on June 10, 12, 14, and 19. On June 19, Ukraine brought home a group of wounded and seriously ill defenders from captivity.
