Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), together with Lithuanian law enforcement, has detained a Russian militant who attempted to flee to the European Union disguised as a refugee, the SBU press service reports.

According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the detention took place at the border with Lithuania. The man, a citizen of Ukraine, had fought on the side of Russian forces and attempted to hide in the European Union.

According to the investigation, the detainee is a 33-year-old native of the Sumy region. After the annexation of Crimea, he moved to the peninsula, obtained a Russian passport, joined the United Russia party, and signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense.

After completing training, he was appointed an unmanned systems operator and launched strike drones at positions of Ukrainian forces in Kherson.

Later, realizing the risks of participating in combat, the militant fled the front line and tried to enter the EU to obtain refugee status.

Thanks to cooperation between the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police, the Office of the Prosecutor General, and Lithuanian law enforcement, he was identified and detained.

The traitor has already been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — high treason committed under martial law. He faces life imprisonment.

Earlier, in Zaporizhzhia, a Russian agent preparing enemy airstrikes on Ukraine's power-generating facilities was detained.

It was also noted that in Odesa, SBU officers detained an agent who was producing explosives for attacks in the port city. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
