President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited positions in the Dobropillia direction, where he met with soldiers of the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Currently, the unit, together with adjacent forces, is defending one of the most intense sections of the front. The head of state listened to reports from the military on the operational situation and discussed current defense needs with the command.

Particular attention was paid to the supply of weapons, the expansion of drone production, the material support of brigades, and the implementation of the combat experience of the National Guard units, in particular, the Azov Corps.

During the visit, Zelenskyy thanked the soldiers for their service and presented state awards to servicemen who distinguished themselves in battle.

"The defenders serve in an important sector. I am grateful to the warriors for defending Ukraine and our territorial integrity. This is our country, this is our East, and we will certainly do our utmost to keep it Ukrainian," the President says.

Failed Russian assaults in Dobropillia direction

The Ukrainian military repeatedly thwarted attempts by Russian units to advance in the Dobropillia area of the Donetsk region. On October 16, Ukrainian defenders repelled Russian attacks in the Shakhove and Volodymyrivka areas. As a result of the fighting, Russia suffered significant losses in manpower and equipment.

On the same day, the National Guard reported effective strikes against Russian forces in the Dobropillia direction - Ukrainian fighters eliminated dozens of Russian invaders and destroyed several tanks, armored vehicles, and cars.

A similar Russian assault attempt took place on October 13. At that time, Russia launched an attack with 16 units of heavy equipment—tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and armored personnel carriers. However, this attack also failed: most of the Russian armored vehicles were destroyed by Ukrainian defense forces.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukrainian defenders continue their counteroffensive operation in the Dobropillia direction. The assault troops have achieved success.
