Ukrainian forces have shown how they repelled an attack by the Russian army on Shakhove and Volodymyrivka near Dobropillia in the Donetsk region. The Russian forces suffered heavy losses, according to the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine, Azov.

The Russian forces attempted a large-scale mechanized assault on the Ocheretyne direction near Dobropillia, aiming to capture the settlement of Shakhove. To do this, the Russian army deployed a large number of troops and 22 armored vehicles.

"The largest column — 11 units (tanks and infantry fighting vehicles) — moved out from the Malynivka area around 7:50 a.m. The enemy had prepared for the assault in advance. To complicate the mining of advance routes, the enemy set up observation posts to detect and destroy Ukrainian Defense Forces drones," the statement said.

The Russian army also tried to change their attack tactics. On October 15, they attempted to conceal the concentration of their equipment in a forested area near the attack zone. However, they failed: Ukrainian forces not only detected the equipment but also destroyed two units.

When the Russian forces launched their assault on October 16, they encountered minefields, engineering obstacles, precise artillery fire from the Armed Forces and National Guard of Ukraine, and strikes from the unmanned systems forces crews.

As a result, the attack was thwarted, with the Russian army losing dozens of personnel. In addition, 9 armored vehicles were destroyed and 4 damaged. In effect, the assault column was destroyed.

Failed Russian assaults near Dobropillia

On the morning of October 16, National Guard units inflicted devastating losses on the Russian army in the Dobropillia direction. Many tanks, armored vehicles, and trucks were destroyed, and dozens of Russian soldiers were eliminated by artillery and drone strikes.

Reports of repelling large-scale mechanized assaults in this direction also emerged on October 13. At that time, the Russian army launched 16 heavy armored vehicles, including BMPs, MT-LBs, and tanks, but the assault failed, and most of the equipment was destroyed.
