Ukraine's national debt increased by over $7 billion in one month
Ukraine's state-guaranteed debt stood at 5.92425 trillion hryvnias or $151.05 billion as of March 31, 2024, according to data from the Ministry of Finance.
Minfin data reveals that during March, the debt increased by 434.31 billion hryvnias in local currency equivalent and $7.36 billion in dollar terms.
Borrowings in March
After a hiatus, Ukraine resumed receiving international assistance in March, primarily in the form of long-term loans.
Specifically, the following amounts were provided:
- $4.901 billion from the EU as the first tranche under the Ukraine Facility instrument;
- $1.626 billion from the World Bank guaranteed by Japan and the UK;
- $1.471 billion from Canada;
- $881 million from the IMF.
Debt in 2022-2023
Ukraine's public debt increased by $13.49 billion (13.7%) to $111.45 billion in 2022 and by $33.87 billion (30.4%) to $145.32 billion in 2023.
In September 2022, Ukraine received a deferral on servicing its sovereign debt from G7 countries and the Paris Club until the end of 2023.
In December 2023, the debt restructuring was extended until the end of March 2027.
