Ukraine has handed over its memorandum to the Russian side. Russia now has at least four days to submit its document with proposals for a ceasefire to Kyiv, according to a statement from Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

Rustem Umerov said he has already handed the document reflecting Ukraine’s position on a ceasefire to the head of the Russian delegation.

"They received this document. We reaffirm Ukraine’s readiness for a full and unconditional ceasefire and continued diplomatic engagement. We are not opposed to further meetings with the Russians and are awaiting their “memorandum,” so that the meeting won’t be empty and can truly move us closer to ending the war," he noted.

The minister emphasized that the Russian side now has at least four more days to submit its proposals to Ukraine.

"The Russian side has at least four more days before their departure to provide us with their document for review," the minister said.

He reminded that earlier the Russian side promised to provide the memorandum immediately after the exchange.

"We call on them to fulfill that promise without delay and stop trying to turn the meeting into a destructive one. Diplomacy must be substantive, and the next meeting must yield results," he stressed.

Memorandum on peace

During the negotiations in Istanbul on May 16, the parties agreed to put in writing their vision of a possible ceasefire.

Later, after a conversation with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would prepare a memorandum concerning a potential future peace agreement.

Earlier today, Reuters reported that Putin has set conditions for ending the war in Ukraine.

At the same time, it became known today that the Russian Federation has proposed to Ukraine to hold a second round of negotiations on a ceasefire on Monday, June 2, in Istanbul.
