Ukraine's Ministry of Energy comments on Russian massive attack on energy facilities
On November 28, Russia carried out its 11th massive attack this year on Ukrainian civilian energy infrastructure. Assessment of the extent of damage is ongoing, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reports.
"Energy workers are working to provide backup power schemes where possible. They have already begun recovery work where the security situation allows," the statement said.
On November 28, the Russian army struck Ukraine's energy system again. As a result, emergency power outages were implemented across Ukraine.
In the Lviv region, 523,000 consumers are without electricity, while in the Volyn region, there are 215,000 consumers who have no electric power.
As Serhii Kovalenko, CEO of YASNO (Ukrainian energy supplier - ed.), reported, the energy system situation is complicated.
"According to forecasts from Ukrenergo (Ukrainian national power company - ed.), emergency power outages will continue until the evening, at 8:00 p.m. (Kyiv time -ed.), but this is still just a forecast," Kovalenko posted.
Situation in Ukrainian energy system
The situation in Ukraine's energy sector remains difficult due to significant damage to both generation and transmission capacities.
As Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated, "going through the winter depends primarily on the intensity of Russian attacks on our energy system."
