Ukraine's military gets record share of homegrown weapons in 2026

Since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has approved 1,678 new weapons and military equipment systems for use by the Defense Forces, 1,530 of which were produced by Ukrainian companies, according to Ukraine's Ministry of Defense.
The pace of codification of domestically produced weapons has increased significantly since the start of the full-scale invasion. For comparison, 60 Ukrainian systems were approved for use in 2022, while in 2026 the number reached 1,530, or 25.5 times more.
The number of codified weapons and military equipment systems by year:
- 2022 — 110 systems in total, including 60 (54.5%) made in Ukraine;
- 2023 — 480 in total, including 295 (61.5%) made in Ukraine;
- 2024 — 1,409 in total, including 1,051 (74.6%) made in Ukraine;
- 2025 — 2,050 in total, including 1,427 (69.6%) made in Ukraine;
- 2026, as of September 25 — 1,678 in total, including 1,530 (91.2%) made in Ukraine.
The share of domestically produced weapons and military equipment for the needs of the military has also increased significantly. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, this figure has risen by 67.3%.
Ukraine previously announced a grant competition under the Brave1 defense cluster to develop humanoid robots for the Defense Forces. The combat robots are intended to minimize risks to Ukrainian service members during combat missions and frontline rotations.
