The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow, June 20, in response to the latest wave of Russian attacks on Ukraine. Council members are expected to demonstrate their stance on these strikes, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Twitter (X).

According to him, the UN Security Council meeting will take place in response to the latest wave of brutal Russian strikes on Ukraine.

"We expect UNSC members to take a principled stance against Russian strikes that resulted in multiple civilian casualties. We require clear signals about the need to increase pressure on the aggressor and strengthen Ukraine, including additional air defense capabilities," Sybiha added.

The Foreign Minister reminded that it has been 100 days since Ukraine agreed to a US proposal for a complete ceasefire with Russia. This could have paved the way toward a peace process. However, Moscow continues to reject the initiative and escalates its terror against civilians.

"Only pressure can force Russia to choose peace over war," the minister emphasized.

Sybiha stressed that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine remains a threat to global stability.

"The security of Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific is directly linked because regimes in Moscow, Tehran, and Pyongyang are working together to shatter international peace and security. We must remain united and work together to counter these threats," he stated.

Russia's strike on Kyiv

On the night of June 17, Russian forces launched missile and drone attacks on Kyiv.

In the Solomianskyi district of the capital, a nine-story residential building was partially destroyed as a result of the strike. A ballistic missile tore through the structure from top to bottom.

The attack claimed the lives of 23 people in that building, and many others were injured.
