Ukraine's losses during offensive in Kursk region: Syrskyi reveals
During the Ukrainian forces' offensive in the Kursk region, the enemy had to defend in uncomfortable conditions. Ukraine's losses were actually half of those suffered by the Russians, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, says in the documentary film "Operation Kursk. How It Really Was, from the First-Hand Accounts."
"They (the Russians - ed.) felt what we feel. That is, they had to defend their own territory and, moreover, in conditions that were not comfortable for them. Here, during the offensive actions, our losses were actually half of those who were defending," Syrskyi said.
Operation in Kursk region
In May 2024, Ukrainian intelligence received information about Russia preparing an offensive from the Kursk region towards Sumy. The goal of the offensive was to create a "buffer zone" along Ukraine's northern border, as well as continue attacks on the Kharkiv region.
In response to the enemy's plans, the Ukrainian command decided to conduct an operation on the territory of the Kursk region.
On November 6, Syrskyi reported that during the operation, Russian losses exceeded 20,000, including:
- 7,905 killed;
- 12,220 wounded;
- 717 captured.
Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that dictator Vladimir Putin had tasked his troops to push the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the Kursk region before the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump.
