Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer emphasized that any peaceful resolution to Russia's war against Ukraine is possible only with Ukraine's participation and its interests considered. He provided details about his phone call with US President-elect Donald Trump, during which significant attention was given to the war in Ukraine, according to Nehammer's interview with PULS 24.

Nehammer stated that Austria, as a neutral country, could be proposed as a potential venue for peace negotiations.

At the same time, he underscored that any discussions about peace must involve Ukraine and place its interests at the center of the talks.

Additionally, the chancellor noted Trump’s interest in the war and his desire to end it. According to Nehammer, Trump demonstrated emotional engagement and strong motivation for initiatives to end the war and reduce human suffering.

Nehammer reiterated that no peace agreements can be made without Ukraine’s involvement. He also clarified that issues such as territorial concessions or reductions in military aid were not discussed at this stage.

The chancellor stressed the importance of international support for Ukraine and collective efforts to achieve a just peace. He expressed hope that Trump’s interest could create new momentum in resolving the conflict.

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy’s Office reiterated the primary condition for initiating negotiations with Russia, requiring the withdrawal of enemy forces to positions held before February 24, 2022.

At the same time, President-elect Donald Trump wanted to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table.
