Ukraine’s intelligence reveals what Russia uses to build Geran drones in Alabuga

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) has published data on 20 pieces of foreign-made industrial equipment that Russia uses to manufacture Geran attack drones in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone.
Equipment identified in Alabuga
The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine has published a list of foreign-made equipment used to manufacture various versions of Geran attack drones at the Alabuga Special Economic Zone.

The list includes lathes, milling and drilling machines, machining centers, industrial robots, automatic component placement machines, soldering robots, and other equipment.

According to the HUR, the equipment is manufactured by companies from China, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, and Iran. The list includes, in particular:
- VMC 1000Q vertical machining center made by Chinese company SMTCL (Shenyang Machine Tool Co.);
- RS-1R automatic component placement machine made by Japanese company JUKI;
- a mechatronic production line made by German company Festo, featuring a Melfa industrial robot from Japan’s Mitsubishi.
The equipment is used for various manufacturing processes, ranging from the processing of metals and other materials to the assembly of SMD components onto printed circuit boards.
Ukraine’s intelligence called on manufacturers of high-tech equipment to strengthen controls over end users and the actual locations where their products are being used.
In particular, the HUR proposed conducting on-site inspections at the declared installation addresses, investigating supply chains that deliver their products to Russian defense industry entities, and terminating contracts with unreliable distributors.
Days earlier, the intelligence agency also published data on enterprises belonging to the Radio-Electronic Technologies concern of the Rostec state corporation on the War&Sanctions portal. A third of them are still not subject to any sanctions, even though the concern’s products are used in the production of electronic warfare systems, electric motors, and navigation systems for UAVs.
