Ukraine's Foreign Minister discusses contacts with new US administration
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed hope for continued US support after the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump during his speech at NATO headquarters, Radio Liberty reports.
According to Sybiha, Ukraine and its allies should focus on the concept of “peace through strength” to force Russia to agree to fair demands for security.
"We, together with our allies, must do everything to compel Russia toward a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace. This is about the concept of 'peace through strength,'" he explained.
The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of US support in this process, given Washington's key role in security and military assistance to Kyiv.
"Today, Andriy Yermak, the head of the Presidential Office, is in the US for important meetings, and this contact is extremely important for establishing relations with representatives of the new administration,” he said.
Sybiha also added that he was also recently in Washington, where he met with representatives of both houses of Congress.
"We hope that American support for Ukraine will be preserved," he stated.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the need for increased contact between the Trump administration and representatives of Ukraine. The strengthening of dialogue should occur even before the official inauguration of the newly elected US President.
