Ukraine's forces disrupt Russian army's plans in Kursk region and advance in some areas
In the Kursk region, despite the advantage of the Russian army, the Defense Forces continue their counteroffensive actions. In some areas, Ukrainian troops are pushing the enemy out of their positions, according to a statement from the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation (CCD), Andrii Kovalenko, on Telegram.
According to the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation, Russian-Korean forces maintain a numerical advantage in the Kursk region, but losses in equipment and personnel have slowed their advance.
This allows the Defense Forces to carry out tactical counteroffensive actions and, in some cases, push the Russian troops out of occupied positions.
Kovalenko also noted that the enemy's initial plans were disrupted due to the terrain and significant losses.
Fighting in the Kursk region
In the summer of 2024, Ukrainian forces carried out a successful offensive in the Kursk region, capturing significant territory.
In response, Russia deployed about 11,000 North Korean soldiers to support its forces in the fall. However, due to insufficient training and a lack of a common language, the North Korean troops suffered heavy losses.
As of mid-January 2025, approximately 4,000 North Korean soldiers had been killed or wounded, which accounts for more than a third of their total force.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the Ukrainian Defense Forces captured the first two North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region.
Additionally, on January 23, 2025, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, shared conclusions after six months of the Kursk operation.
