Six months in Kursk: Army chief outlines key conclusions from Ukrainian military operation
Ukrainian forces have been conducting operations in the Kursk region for six months. The main conclusion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is that preparations should be made not only for defense but also for offense, states the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in an interview with Radio Bayraktar.
"When we launched a successful counteroffensive, an offensive operation in the Kursk direction, it greatly motivated our personnel, our soldiers. It significantly boosted morale not only in our troops but also in society. And, let’s say, it gave us hope that this offensive would not be the last one," said Syrskyi.
At the same time, he emphasized that the enemy should not be underestimated.
"We must learn to fight, learn to win, learn to draw conclusions, possibly from our own mistakes. And, of course, we must acquire and prevail in technological terms. Because we are fighting primarily not with numbers but with quality and technology," added the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to him, this approach helps preserve the lives of soldiers.
"And, of course, we need to prepare not only for defense but also for offense. That’s the main conclusion," Syrskyi concluded.
Operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region
In the summer of 2024, Ukrainian defenders managed to break through the border and enter the territory of the Kursk region.
The Russian troops were able to reclaim part of their territory, but the Ukrainian army continues to maintain control over dozens of settlements in the region, including the city of Sudzha.
To push Ukrainian forces out, the Russian forces even involved North Korean soldiers in the fighting, who are suffering huge casualties there.
Also, for the first time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces captured two North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region. One of them was taken prisoner on January 9.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during the operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, the Russian army lost over 38,000 soldiers.
