Ukrainian soldiers continue to conduct combat operations on Russian territory. They are active in the Belgorod and Kursk regions, according to the evening address of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The head of state said that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported to him on the situation at the front. His report covered all directions.

According to Zelenskyy, there are over a hundred battles on the front line every day. The fiercest fighting remains in the Pokrovsk direction and other areas of the Donetsk region.

"We continue our active operations in the Kursk and Belgorod regions — we are defending Ukraine’s border areas preventively," the president emphasized.

He clarified that all combat actions are not Ukraine’s choice, but rather a defense against the Russian army.

Fighting on Russian territory

Ukrainian soldiers have been continuing their operation in the Kursk region since August of last year. In the Belgorod region, however, their presence is relatively recent, since March.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the presence of Ukrainian defenders in the Belgorod region back on April 7.

Military expert Ivan Stupak, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel, explained these actions by the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a tactic to divert the enemy’s attention.
