If Ukrainian forces were able to capture about 5 kilometers in the Belgorod region, it is a significant achievement in the context of the tactic of diverting the attention of Russian troops, states military expert Ivan Stupak in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.

According to him, this can be called a "micro Kursk operation," as minimal resources from the Kursk region were used for the advance.

"We managed to take some of the forces and use them in Belgorod, where, as calculated, the weak area, weak defense. One can say this is a significant achievement for Ukraine in terms of diverting attention," he noted.

At the same time, the expert emphasized that such actions help reduce pressure on other directions, particularly in Sumy, where Russia is carrying out active attacks.

"There is indeed immense pressure on the Sumy region from the Kursk direction. There is both enemy advancement and shelling to a depth of up to 13 km," he added.

Some reports also indicate the redeployment of Russian forces.

"The 20th Army is being redeployed from the Kharkiv and Kursk directions specifically to Belgorod," the expert emphasized, adding that this tactic helps balance the pressure on different sections of the front.

Rumors about the Ukrainian Forces' offensive

On March 18, Russian war correspondents began reporting that Ukrainian defenders allegedly broke through the border and entered the Belgorod region.

Later, Russia reportedly announced an evacuation in the Krasnoyaruzhsky district of the Belgorod region.

As of April 1, there is no official information confirming such a breakthrough.

However, according to the Institute for the Study of War, the Ukrainian Defense Forces recently advanced near Pokrovsk and in the Belgorod region.
