Talks with Russia are currently on hold, while Moscow is not showing any readiness for a serious diplomatic process. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said this after a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, according to an RBC-Ukraine correspondent.

Sybiha said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin remains virtually the only obstacle to ending the war. According to him, Moscow is showing no signs on the battlefield that it is ready for a serious negotiation process and is instead continuing to intensify its terror.

The Ukrainian foreign minister also drew attention to an unusual move by the Russian side. According to him, the Russians retrieved the remains of Prince Dmitry Donskoy, who is considered one of Russia's heroes, and began taking them to the front.

"Putin has already started resorting to some bizarre things, things that are almost comical: they took out the skeleton, the remains of Dmitry Donskoy, one of their heroes, to take it to the front," Sybiha said.

He added that, in his view, such actions do not indicate Russia's readiness for peace.

"Our position, given that Putin is the only obstacle to peace, is that it would be better if he switched places with this skeleton. Then we really would accelerate the end of this war," the minister said.

What is happening with the talks

According to Sybiha, talks with Russia are currently on hold. Ukraine is expecting more active involvement from the United States and the arrival of the US negotiating team.

"We need more active involvement from the American side. We welcome such involvement, we welcome US leadership, because without the Americans, without the United States, it is unrealistic to achieve progress toward a just peace in this situation," the foreign minister stressed.

He said Ukraine has its own ideas for reviving the negotiation process. At the same time, Kyiv is discussing the role of its European partners in peace efforts.

"The new active political and diplomatic season should primarily focus on how we can end this war," Sybiha said.

As previously reported, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul arrived in Kyiv on the morning of August 22. During his visit, he said Germany would continue to support Ukraine and help it prepare for the coming winter.

After meeting with Wadephul, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that Kyiv and Berlin also plan to expand defense cooperation, including joint weapons production.

Other topics discussed included sanctions against Russia and the use of frozen Russian assets.
