Ukraine's FM condemns Russian double strike targeting civilians in Shostka

The Russian Federation carried out targeted and deliberate drone strikes on passenger trains in Shostka, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
"These were targeted and deliberate strikes by Russian drones on passenger trains in Shostka, Sumy region. Not one, but two consecutive strikes. This is one of the cruelest Russian tactics — the so-called ‘double strike,’ where the second strike hits rescuers and people evacuating," Sybyha said.
According to him, Russian terrorists must face a severe response for this “deliberate and brutal terror against civilians.” He believes this requires new devastating sanctions.
"New reinforcement of support for Ukraine is needed. This can and must be done to raise the cost of this war for Russia. Putin must feel the personal danger of continuing this war for himself and his regime," the Foreign Minister added.
Strike on Shostka railway station
On Saturday, October 4, the Russian army struck with drones at the railway station in Shostka, Sumy region, and the “Shostka-Kyiv” passenger train.
“Russia attacked the railway station in the Shostka community. The enemy deliberately struck civilian infrastructure — the passenger train on the Shostka-Kyiv route,” the OVA reported.
Later, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared a video from Shostka showing Russians attacking the passenger train. After the strike, Shostka and part of the district were left without electricity due to the Russian attack.
Ukrzaliznytsia has already canceled several suburban trains on October 4 and 5 in the region.
Details on the consequences of the strike can be read in the full RBC-Ukraine article.
