So far, only the media have reported on the US desire to change the rare earths agreement. Therefore, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry cannot comment on such statements, according to the Ministry's spokesperson, Heorhii Tykhyi.

“Today, the Ukrainian and American teams are working under this agreement and continue to dialog,” he said.

According to the spokesperson, if the American side has additional ideas on how to conclude this document, and how to move forward, they should be considered at the level of the teams that communicate with each other.

“The rest is media reports, and I won't go into the details of commenting on them, because they are just media reports,” Tykhyi added.

Agreement on rare earths between US and Ukraine

In mid-February, the United States presented Ukraine with a draft agreement on natural resources.

It was planned that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump would sign it during a meeting on February 28 in Washington. However Ukraine and the United States did not sign the document, and the signing ceremony was canceled.

Recently, the Financial Times wrote that the US wants to change the terms of the agreement on Ukrainian minerals. In particular, they want to include Ukraine's nuclear power plants in the expanded agreement.

Interestingly, in late February, it was reported that the EU offered Ukraine its own agreement on the use of rare earths. It should be more favorable than the American proposal.
