A fake document claiming that the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine has suspended the search and exhumation of victims of the Volyn tragedy is circulating online, states Ukraine’s Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications, Mykola Tochytskyi, on Facebook.

The fake document, which is being shared particularly among the Polish audience, alleges that a decision has been made to halt search and exhumation work in the village of Sadove in Ternopil region.

"This information, allegedly presented in a letter signed by me, is fake and aims to undermine the historical and constructive dialogue between Ukraine and Poland. I once again emphasize that the fieldwork was successfully completed on May 10, 2025," Tochytskyi stated.

He added that Ukraine also expects a prompt response from Poland’s Ministry of Culture and its head, Hanna Wróblewska.

Search and exhumation of Volyn tragedy victims

This year, Ukraine began the exhumation of Polish citizens who died during the Volyn tragedy. Poland had repeatedly called for the start of this work, and recently Kyiv and Warsaw managed to reach agreements on key issues.

Exhumation efforts began in early April in the village of Uhly, Rivne region. Search operations were also conducted in the Ternopil region.
