Ukraine's capture of North Korean soldiers highlights military strength - Foreign Minister
The capture of North Korean soldiers in Russia's Kursk region is a recognition of Ukraine's military power. It was an extremely difficult task, but it was accomplished, according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
According to the Foreign Minister, as soon as he learned about captured North Korean soldiers, he held conversations with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and foreign leaders.
"They congratulate us, they congratulate Ukraine. Because this is a great success and recognition of Ukrainian military power. It was an extremely difficult task (to take prisoners alive - ed.), which was accomplished thanks to the heroism of our soldiers. The Supreme Commander-in-Chief set this task, and it was accomplished," Sybiha said.
According to him, it was difficult to capture a live North Korean soldier because they blew themselves up and committed suicide.
"The Russian army also made it impossible for them to be captured alive. This is real proof of the changing realities of Russian aggression - the involvement of the North Korean military in this war. This is the first time they are fighting on the European continent,” the Minister added.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized that North Korean troops hundreds of kilometers away from NATO's borders are changing a lot.
"This changes the global perspective in the US, Europe, and the Global South. Now you have two witnesses. But this is a clear sign that this is no longer just Russian aggression, but a more global problem," Tsahkna remarked.
Last week, Ukrainian forces captured two North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region. President Zelenskyy addressed Kim Jong Un with a proposal to take them back if he organized an exchange for Ukrainian soldiers in Russian captivity.
In addition, it has become known today that South Korea may ask Ukraine to hand over these prisoners if they express such a desire as the South Korean constitution considers North Koreans its citizens.
Meanwhile, a new video of the interrogation of a captured North Korean soldier was released today.
