Ukraine's ban on border crossing for men 18-60 could ease for those under 24, MP says

Ukraine may soon reconsider its approach to men crossing the border. The parliament will consider raising the current age limit prohibiting men from traveling abroad from 18 years to 23-24 years, as Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, says at Media Center Ukraine.
According to Venislavskyi, MPs are now discussing the matter of young people who go abroad to study and do not return to Ukraine. He added that there is currently an idea to not restrict the movement of Ukrainian citizens until they are 23-24 years old.
“So that those young Ukrainians who study abroad have the opportunity to come to Ukraine, be with their families, and are not forced to stay abroad, but keep in touch with Ukraine,” he explained.
He noted that this problem is quite sensitive, as it is difficult to determine the age limit when a man can cross the border. But there will be legislative initiatives on this topic in the parliament in the short term.
Mobilization in Ukraine
On April 18, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law extending martial law and mobilization.
Martial law gives the authorities the power to impose special restrictions. During this period, a ban on free movement within the country may be imposed, as well as restrictions on transportation for both Ukrainian and foreign citizens.
During martial law in Ukraine, men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving the country. Exceptions include, among others, men with disabilities, parents with many children, those accompanying persons with disabilities, students of foreign universities, and others.
