Ukraine's best weekend getaways: 10 destinations you can't miss

Forget about crowded beaches and long queues for ski lifts. Ukraine hides dozens of unique locations not featured in tourist brochures – from flooded churches and radar stations to canyons, high-altitude lakes, and pottery villages. Ukrainian travel blogger Sofiia Rastorhueva, who has visited 26 countries and hundreds of towns, shares 10 lesser-known locations in Ukraine worth visiting.
Butskiy Canyon
One of the most picturesque natural wonders in central Ukraine, located on the Hirskyi Tikych River in the Cherkasy region.
Granite cliffs, waterfalls, and turbulent waters create the impression of a miniature mountain landscape. It's an ideal spot for picnics, camping, and photo shoots.

Tarakaniv Fort
This abandoned military fortress from the 19th century is located near Dubno in the Rivne region.
Massive walls, underground tunnels, and atmospheric ruins create a true adventure film-like experience. It's a perfect spot for urban exploration lovers and those fascinated by mysterious history.

Mount Syniak
The peak at 1,665 meters in the Gorgany mountain range, with forested slopes up to 1,300 meters and alpine meadows and stone fields above, which give the mountain its slightly bluish hue, giving it its name.
From the summit, breathtaking views of Chornohora, Hoverla, Petros, Dovbushanka, and Khomiak make it popular for day hikes.

Mount Khomiak
A scenic peak in the eastern part of the Gorgany, about 1,542 meters high. Its characteristic roof-shaped form, covered with stone fields and juniper, resembles the back of a hamster, which is where the name comes from.
From the summit, enjoy stunning panoramas of the Chornohora massif (Hoverla, Petros), nearby ranges, Syniak, Dovbushanka, and the surrounding dense forests.

Flooded Church in Kyiv Region
This is the remains of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Church, located in the village of Husyntsi, which was submerged during the creation of the Kaniv Reservoir.
Today it stands in the middle of the water, looking like it's on an island, creating an incredibly atmospheric sight.
It attracts photographers, travelers, and lovers of unique locations.

Opishnia
This is the recognized pottery capital of Ukraine with a long-standing tradition of ceramic production; in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, about 1,000 artisans worked here, and their products were exported and exhibited worldwide.
Since 1986, the village has been home to the National Museum-Reserve of Ukrainian Pottery, which includes several museums of famous potters' estates, workshops, an open-air gallery, and modern master classes.

Bakota
A submerged village on the Dniester River is known for its picturesque cliffs and cave monastery.

Radar Station "Pamir" on Mount Tomnatik
The remains of a radar station at 1,565 meters in the Chernivtsi region.
