Ukraine's air defenses take out 470+ targets amid massive Russian strike

On the night of October 5, Russia carried out one of the largest aerial attacks since the beginning of autumn. From multiple directions, the enemy launched hundreds of drones and missiles, according to the Ukrainian Air Forces.
On the night of October 5, the enemy carried out a combined strike on the territory of Ukraine using attack drones, air-, sea-, and ground-launched missiles. In total, the Air Forces’ radar units detected and tracked 549 aerial attack objects:
- 496 strike drones of the Shahed and Gerbera types (other types of UAVs were also recorded). Around 250 of them were Shaheds;
- 2 aeroballistic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles;
- 42 cruise missiles Kh-101/Iskander-K;
- 9 Kalibr cruise missiles launched from the Black Sea.
The main direction of the strike was aimed at Lviv region.
The aerial attack was repelled by aviation, surface-to-air missile troops, electronic warfare and UAV units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data as of 14:00, air defense systems shot down and suppressed 478 aerial targets:
- 439 enemy UAVs of the Shahed and Gerbera types (other types of drones were also recorded);
- 1 aeroballistic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missile;
- 32 Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles;
- 6 Kalibr cruise missiles.
"In addition, six enemy missiles did not reach their targets (locations lost, impact sites being clarified). Eight missiles and 57 strike drones hit 20 locations directly, and wreckage from downed drones was recorded at six locations," the military added.
Massive attack on Ukraine
On the night of October 5, Russia carried out a massive attack on Ukraine. Lviv region suffered the most, with the enemy using almost all available types of weapons.
In addition to the western regions, Zaporizhzhia came under fire. The massive attack caused power outages for tens of thousands of people, and part of Cherkasy region also remained without electricity due to damaged power lines.
During the night, strikes were also carried out on critical infrastructure in Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Already on the morning of October 5, Chernihiv was attacked by Russian Shaheds. One of the city’s enterprises was hit.
