The US proposes to create a free economic zone in Donbas as a compromise to end the war between Ukraine and Russia. No one is enthusiastic about this idea, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says in an interview with Bloomberg.
"None of the sides is keen on the idea of the free economic zone — neither the Russians, nor us," Zelenskyy says.
According to him, Kyiv and Moscow have different views on the issue of territories.
"And agreements were as follows — let’s come back with the vision of what it may look like for the next meeting," he clarifies.
Russia's demands
The Russian authorities are demanding that Ukraine withdraw all its troops from the Donetsk region. Moscow wants to gain complete control over the region.
At the same time, Ukraine insists that the parties should proceed from the current line of demarcation in the issue of a ceasefire.
The US has proposed creating a free economic zone in the Donetsk region as a compromise. This idea was included in President Donald Trump's peace plan.
At the same time, last week, information emerged that during the negotiations in Abu Dhabi, Russia had put forward a new demand for the cessation of hostilities.
In addition to control over the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the Kremlin now insists on official international recognition of Donbas as Russian by all countries participating in the negotiation process.
