In October, Ukrainian forces regained more territory than Russian troops captured, while Russian army losses reached their highest level since the start of the full-scale war, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to the head of state, the Russian army lost 54,400 troops, killed and seriously wounded, in October. This is the highest monthly figure since the start of the full-scale war.
Russian forces also suffered record daily losses. In particular, on October 21, the Russian army lost 2,250 troops killed and wounded.
At the same time, Ukrainian defenders continued to retake captured territories. In October, the Defense Forces liberated 96.2 square kilometers of Ukrainian land. This is 10.4 square kilometers more than Russian troops managed to capture during the same period.
Zelenskyy thanked Ukrainian service members for their achievements.
"Russia is losing. We are holding our positions, liberating territory, and making sure that every day of the war costs the aggressor as much as possible. To stop these insane losses, all Russia has to do is choose a ceasefire and diplomacy," the president concluded.
Defense Forces' records in October
It should be recalled that October saw record figures for strikes against Russian military personnel across several Ukrainian units.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces hit 64,807 enemy targets during the month, including 16,796 Russian troops. Unmanned Systems Forces Commander Robert "Madyar" Brovdi called this the highest figure since the start of the full-scale war.
The Security Service of Ukraine also recorded high figures. In just one week, operators of the Alpha Special Operations Center neutralized 3,198 Russian troops. According to the unit's verified data, 2,146 of them were killed and another 1,052 were wounded.
The Security Service of Ukraine emphasized that this was a record number of enemy personnel hit over such a short period.
At the same time, these figures are part of the much larger losses the Russian army has suffered since the start of the full-scale invasion.
According to estimates by the British outlet The Economist, the number of Russian troops killed in the war may range from 374,000 to 770,000. Including the wounded, Russia's total losses are estimated at 1.4–2.1 million people.
