Ukrainian forces liberated about 460 square kilometers of territory during the winter-spring counteroffensive in the southern direction, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

Responding to a journalist's question about the advance of Ukrainian forces, the head of state named a new figure of liberated territories.

"We have regained 460 square kilometers since the beginning of the year," the President of Ukraine said.

Counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the south

In mid-February, Russia first spread information about an alleged counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the border of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. At the same time, Southern Defense Forces clarified the actual situation in this section of the front.

Later, on February 20, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukrainian forces had de-occupied approximately 300 square kilometers of territory in the south.

In addition, on February 22, information emerged about active actions of the Air Assault Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Oleksandrivka direction. Their key goal is to prevent Russian plans for further advance within the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Also on February 23, Commander-in-Chief of Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that the Defense Forces of Ukraine, during the offensive in the south, liberated eight settlements and about 400 square kilometers of territory.

ISW analysts noted that Ukrainian forces, during an offensive in the southern direction of the front, liberated up to ten settlements.
